I love London. Despite hating the cold with a passion, this city floods me with excitement every time I land here. Everything just works. Bang on time. Although it can be hectic, life can run like clockwork here. If you’re thinking of traveling here, here are some tips for the perfect day in London.
Simple things like relying on your taxi to arrive on time is so refreshing in a way that I can’t help but compare to life in the Middle East, where from my experience, the mere thought would be a luxury! It makes me wonder and question if this city could be somewhere I should eventually settle down in and call home.
Having not returned to the UK for a year, it was only inevitable that my visit would involve a big reunion with some of my best friends I met at University here. As expected, we had a crazy, fun-filled London Easter weekend.
There is just so much to see and do in this city, it’s hard to keep up! My ‘Perfect Day in London’ will merely scratch the surface, but it’s a start, as some of my favourite things to do here:
Morning
Head to Borough Market for breakfast/brunch.
I adore this place! I’m no doubt a food-lover in heaven here. There are stalls and stalls of organic, delicious, gourmet food. Make sure you arrive hungry to indulge in foods like scallops and crispy bacon served in a shell, ostrich burger, spinach and ricotta pasty, chorizo and red pepper gourmet sandwich. Follow this by a selection of cheeses, breads, oils and dip, before moving on to the array of desserts that brings me to a salivating, giddy child every time.
Afternoon
Walk and explore.
There are so many gorgeous parks or neighbourhoods to walk through in London. My favourite place to walk around is Covent Garden. Little cobbled streets with street performers to entertain you. Weave your way through boutique and high street shops at the Seven Dials, with plenty of cafes to get your caffein-recharge fix in.
I’ve recently discovered the Thames Clipper boat that runs along the river. It takes you for a wonderfully British ride with must-see dramatic sites such as London Bridge, Shakespeare globe, Tate Modern, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and London Eye.
If you’re feeling peckish, indulge some more with Afternoon Tea for the full British experience. There are many wonderful hotels and restaurants that will present you with a tier of delicately made sandwiches, cakes and desserts. My friend recommended Blue Bird in the posh Chelsea area which I’ve yet to go to.
Evening
Soho area has more than plenty of restaurants to choose from, which is also the theatre hub of London. After dinner head to a show. Some of my top picks are The Lion King, Wicked, Warhorse and Stomp.
If you’re looking for a top restaurant, The Ivy is always mentioned. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here, a strongly recommended pre-theatre meal. There are so many other places to eat I couldn’t even begin to list them all.
Nightlife
A friend took me to Paramount bar at the top of Centre Point building for the most delicious raspberry champagne cocktails, overlooking 360 view of London’s bright city lights. Post-cocktails, we enjoyed a night of dancing at fancy Pacha club.
Shoreditch area is perhaps more the place to be seen with plenty of bars and clubs like Cargo where the dubstep and drum n bass dj’s will see you on the dance floor through the night.
(All the below photos are my favourites from tumblr and weheartit).
I love London! Thanks for the tips… Next time I’ll definitely try those markets as I am a food lover too 🙂
Yes you should! Borough market is amazing, its always so busy but worth the queues for all the food!
I love London too …. lived in Brighton for 6 years and of course London was my target for days of duty … a very exciting city … that always have something new or old to invite me too. Love your photos. Stunning gallery. My pick of this terrific bunch is the one with parts of London Eye, Parliament and Big Ben – 3rd from the last. Love the color setting and that you got the most important details.
I know there’s always something new to see and do here. I’m glad you like the photos, but I can’t take credit for those, they’re from tumblr website! There are amazing photos on there, the 3rd from last is from Gavin Conlan, I really like it too!
Fantastic pick you have done … even if the photos are not yours. Just the way I see would presented London.
Great city. Thanks for replaying.
Thanks for the comment! And your welcome :).
Lovely photos and I adore London. we moved here over a year ago and I don’t regret the decision at all. It has everything–well not the warmest temperatures. I try to overlook that.
Thanks! Ye it really has everything to do here. I hate the cold! Oh well, just lots of beach holidays instead :).
The pictures are just amazing as well as the description of each scene and events. It is a perfect day indeed. My wife wants to go there this year. She has a relative in London. Me, I’m more of a beach person but looking at this images, I am being motivated. Thanks.
Thank you for your lovely comment. I’m glad its motivated you to go. I think you definitely should, it’s a beautiful and diverse city, so much to explore! I do love the beach too :).
I love London too, although I’ve never been there. If there is such thing as a purely platonic, long-distance love for someone you have never seen, this is it for me and London. Great post!
Thanks! Aw I hope you get to go there soon in that case.. You’d fall in love even more!
You have some very nice pictures of London here! 🙂
Hey thanks! I can’t take credit for the photos myself, but I do love them, they capture London so well I think!
