The Red Sea has given me that wow feeling countless times. It’s no surprise that this crystal-clear, underwater paradise is one of the 7 wonders of the underwater world. It boasts over 1100 species of fish to feast your eyes on and a rainbow of gorgeous coloured coral.
I’ve just come back from my second trip there. As always it was too short, but I now have a list of dive sites that i’m determined to explore during a summer in the future, such as Ras Mohammed and popular wrecks like Thistlegorm. The legendary 130m deep sinkhole called the Blue Hole near Dahab intrigues me. It’s earned the name ‘Diver’s Cemetery’ and is known as the ‘Worlds most dangerous dive site’. Yikes. It would be pretty thrilling to hover at a safe distance however there’s not a chance i’d actually attempt this dive, which involves diving down ‘The Arch’ starting at 56m with the abyss Blue Hole beneath you. Even just the thought makes my heart race! Have you or do you know of anyone who has dived it?
We dived with Mr. Diver company next to the Marriott Hotel where we stayed – both highly recommended.
The excitement of taking my new waterproof camera with me in to the picture-perfect underwater world didn’t wear off for a second. During our dives in Tiran Island we were luckily enough to see blue-spotted ray, eagle ray, lion fish, parrot fish, moray eels, pipe fish, trigger fish, groupers, angel fish, clown fish, napolean fish and many more.
Having sifted through my mass of photos, here are the best ones of the trip:
