When I was searching hotels for my recent stay in Mykonos, one of the first ones I discovered was San Giorgio Hotel, from the Design Hotels group. As soon as I saw the photos on their website, I booked it straight away. I just loved the authentic, bohemian decor. (And it really is just like in the photographs). Total bliss!
The location is ideal, in the middle of two popular beaches: Paradise beach (10 minute walk) and Paraga beach (2 minute walk).
There’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon as you arrive, like you’re staying in your trendiest friends white-washed, luxurious home. San Giorgio had actually just hosted Bloggers Week, a week-long event hosting fashion and lifestyle bloggers from all over the world. We saw them checking out, all looking effortlessly stylish, just as you’d expect fashion bloggers to be.
We were greeted and shown around by a guy called Fish. He seemed very proud of the hotel and their belief in creating an open and friendly environment for their guests, who are ‘encouraged to interact and make friends.’
Unfortunately it took 3 different rooms before they showed us a room that we had booked (the Veranda room with a sea-view and balcony), but when we finally got there it was perfect and just what we’d hoped for.
The minimalist room oozed ‘bohemian-cool’ with chunky candles, rustic, wooden stools and detailed ornaments – all carefully hand-picked as no two rooms are the same.
The lighting in the room was brilliant. Such a simple idea of lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling, framed with thin wicker baskets, creating very zen-like shadow patterns on the wall.
This was complete with a four-poster bed looking out to a white hammock on the balcony with the deep-blue Aegean glistening behind it. It was paradise!
Also there are no televisions in any of the rooms as they would like you to adapt to their ‘bohemian philosophy.’
The pool area was just as gorgeous and well-designed as the rooms.
We ordered a delicious Greek lunch of beef sausages with caramelised onions, greek salad and the most flavorsome calamari rings. And of course mojitos. All delivered on a big sun-lounger bed under the warming Mediterranean sun.
The bar and seating area was open plan, with simple, rustic decor that I adored. I couldn’t stop taking photos! No really, it became obsessive. The long, chunky wooden tables created such a family-style environment which made the stay all the more relaxing.
After lunch we headed to the hotels private, wooden platform just a few steps down from the pool area. Even though sadly it was too windy to sunbathe (I’m a true sun-junkie!), it was lovely to just sit and enjoy the views.
Most evenings we had the most gorgeous, deep-pink sunsets to look forward to. Oh it was so hard leaving this place!
The most popular time to visit Mykonos is July-August. The weather is warm, it isn’t too windy and there’s a bustling, lively atmosphere. One of the reasons I wanted to stay at San Giorgio was because the owner is also joint-owner of the club next door, Paradise club on Paradise beach. But it doesn’t open until June, as there are very little tourists in May.
If you fancy having a hotel almost to yourself and don’t mind the wind and slightly chilly weather (at least a cardigan needed lying on the beach) then early May is the perfect time to go.
I made my booking through a fantastic website Tablet Hotels. They have great deals and describe each hotel well.
You can book San Giorgo through their website here.
🙂
This looks incredible!
