If you fancy brunch surrounded by well-heeled London locals, head to Granger & Co. It’s an elegant venue for a fresh and wholesome kick-start to your day, with great coffee (or bellini in my case) and sweet treats in Notting Hill.
It was my first time exploring the area, and I absolutely adore it! The 10-minute walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station led me through a jam-packed tourist hub before making my way down a peaceful, large, winding road. White-washed homes with their impeccable gardens and blooming pot plants adorned each front-door as if they’d jumped out of a home designs magazine.
The neighborhood is lined with chic, little cafes and restaurants as well as designer boutiques that were very hard to tear myself away from! (I did buy a few gorgeous pieces from Sandro and Bimba y Lola. Their silk shirts are classic and beautiful, I recommend a visit!).
I excitedly met my best friend in the queue snaking its way out the door and around the block. I guess this is no surprise given the restaurant doesn’t take bookings and is super popular. This kind of creates a pretentious vibe that I’m still not sure if I love or hate. We queued for an hour! (Definitely go in and ask for a take-away coffee, this helped a lot as queuing really is a mood-killer).
When we finally made our way through the baby-blue entrance, the first thing I noticed was the large, bright and airy room. The floor-to-ceiling windows lets the sunlight flood in for a very fresh, delightful atmosphere. The flower and dessert arrangements are strikingly gorgeous too, and strategically placed I’m sure!
Most of the diners were stylishly dressed, chatting away and artfully instagramming all the pretty food laid out in front of them.. (..or maybe that was just me..).
I decided to go for a light and healthy choice (this took a lot of willpower I’m telling you) which was a salmon salad with coconut caramel dressing.
The dressing was seriously tasty and not too overpowering. I loved the crispy coconut flakes contrasting with the perfectly cooked, moist salmon. The tangy coriander and grapefruit made for an interesting but great addition too!
The dishes surrounding me all looked very, ‘instagrammable’ ;).
We had grass fed beef burger, tomato chilli jam, beetroot and courgette pickles with gruyere.
And a deliciously different spaghetti with artichoke, mint, lemon and parmesan.
On the other side of the table you can catch a glimpse of Granger & Co’s famous full aussie breakfast – scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, bacon, roast tomato, miso chestnut mushrooms and chipolatas.
It really is a lovely, chic restaurant for catching up with friends over modern, seasonal food. My advice would be to arrive early though and avoid the queues!
Here’s a snap from my instagram – two very happy diners!
