Huge apologies for my lack of blogging recently. Life has been a bit of a whirlwind for the last several months, in the best way possible. I’m back in full force, and can’t wait to share with you all my recent travel adventures. Starting with kayaking in Abu Dhabi!
I’ve actually spent several months living in Abu Dhabi. My sister and I ticked off a lot of the main things to do and see in the city, including the magnificent Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, Ferrari World and impressive Emirates Palace.
We decided to do something a little different and more active, so took a trip to the gorgeous Yas Beach on Yas Island for a day of Mangrove Kayaking!
We booked the trip with Noukhada Adventure Company. They set us up with our kayaks, paddles and life jackets, and off we went with map in hand.
(You really don’t need a map as it’s literally impossible to get lost in this contained bay, however you can’t go on an adventure without holding a map, right?).
Kayaking in Abu Dhabi is not a typical adventure you’d expect to have here, but it’s definitely a recommended chilled day out with friends or family. Something different to indoor malls or tanning by the pool/beach.
It was relaxing as we meandered our way slowly across the mangroves, spotting birds and surprising pink flamingoes along the way…
You get a pretty gorgeous view too from the island towards the skyscraper-peppered downtown area of Abu Dhabi. We did feel pretty snug being in our own little haven. Bopping along the water away from the hustle & bustle of city life.
We stayed out until the sun slowly dipped into the ocean, appreciating the cool breeze and quiet surroundings.
Exploring Abu Dhabi or Dubai is definitely a unique travel experience. You get to awe at some of the worlds tallest buildings, flashiest shopping malls and stunning mosques. A dessert safari is also a wonderful way to learn about Emirati culture, whether dune bashing, camping under the stars or taking a camel ride over the majestic sand dunes. And let’s not forget a trip to Abu Dhabi wouldn’t be complete without a decadent and boozy Friday brunch!
If you’re in this neck of the woods, try and leave at least several days to explore Oman next door. I lived in Oman for 5 years, so this country will always have a special place in my heart. Check out my post on the Top 6 Adventurous Things to do in Oman. You won’t regret it!
Have you ever traveled to Abu Dhabi? If you’re planning a trip to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, feel free to email me with more tips and places to go – I’d be happy to help! xx
What a great idea. I never would have thought of this.
It’s not a typical Abu Dhabi activity but great for something different!
