After buying my new Nutribullet Rx recently, I’ve been obsessed with trying different breakfast smoothie variations each morning. I’ve always loved making smoothies for my family, such as this healthy banana & blueberry smoothie, or this banana, fig and cashew smoothie. However I think this one is my new favourite: the ultimate breakfast smoothie.
The creaminess and sweetness, plus the fact it can be made in minutes, are really too good for words. It definitely helps me get out of bed quicker in the morning! More importantly, it fills me up until lunch time, which never used to happen when I’d just have cereal for breakfast.
So my advice is to chuck out your sugary cereal boxes, stock up on the fresh ingredients below and welcome this deliciously healthy start to your day.
Ultimate Breakfast Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
(serves 1)
1 banana
1 handful of blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 fig (or 2-3 dates)
3 tbsp of oats (or small handful of raw nuts*)
1/2 cup of coconut water
1/2 cup of almond milk (unsweetened)
1 tsp ground seed mix (I use this Linseeds flaxseeds, sunflower & sesame seed mix)
3-4 ice cubes
Optional:
1 handful of spinach or kale
1 tsp almond butter (for a real energising boost)
Method
Simply place all the ingredients in your blender (you may want to tear up the fig and break up the banana depending on the quality of your blender). Blend until smooth, sip slowly and enjoy!
I just love the natural sweetness from the fig/dates, combined with the thickness from the oats/nuts.
*I buy a large bag of mixed raw nuts (cashew, almond, pecan and brazil nuts) to keep me going for several weeks, and normally chuck in about 12-14 nuts per smoothie. Nuts are SO easy to over eat, so I try to stick to a small handful per day. They’re really such a great nutritional and filling supplement for smoothies. If you have time, it would be even better if you roasted them first.
